Two Additional Cases of Highly Pathogenic AI Confirmed in Cheonan and Muan... 69 Cases Reported on Farms
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] As highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) has occurred additionally in domestic poultry farms, the cumulative number of confirmed cases since October last year has approached 70.
According to the Central Avian Influenza Countermeasures Headquarters on the 24th, highly pathogenic AI (H5N8 type) was confirmed yesterday at layer farms in Cheonan, Chungnam and Muan, Jeonnam, bringing the total number of outbreaks in domestic poultry farms to 69. In addition, a suspected case has been identified at a layer farm in Hwaseong, and testing is underway. The confirmed farms in Cheonan and Muan each raise 99,000 and 97,000 birds, respectively.
Accordingly, the Countermeasures Headquarters will implement strengthened quarantine measures including ▲preventive culling of poultry within a 3km radius of the outbreak farms ▲a 30-day movement restriction and comprehensive testing of poultry farms within a 10km radius ▲a 7-day movement restriction on all poultry farms located in Cheonan, Chungnam and Muan, Jeonnam.

A representative of the Countermeasures Headquarters urged, "It is most important that farm owners strictly adhere to basic biosecurity rules, such as applying slaked lime, cleaning and disinfecting farmyards, changing boots, and disinfecting inside the poultry houses daily."
