WHO to Recommend Emergency Use of Moderna Vaccine Following Pfizer
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended the emergency use of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine developed by the U.S. pharmaceutical company Moderna.
According to major foreign media, WHO announced in a statement sent to the press on the 23rd (local time) that the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE), an independent expert panel, is scheduled to announce this recommendation on the 26th.
WHO explained that the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts held a special meeting on the 21st to discuss the review results and agreed on the use recommendation.
Previously, WHO had also recommended the emergency use of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
Generally, each country has its own pharmaceutical regulatory authority and decides whether to use the COVID-19 vaccine by verifying its safety and efficacy through their own procedures.
