The book donation was made as a token of gratitude for the hospitality during Chinese Ambassador Xing Haiming's visit to Haenam last October, delivering Chinese books to Haenam-gun.
The donated books consist of Chinese-language books related to Chinese history and culture, biographies, novels, and other materials that can enhance understanding of Chinese culture.
The county plans to place the donated books in the county library for easy access by residents and to foster a friendly atmosphere in celebration of the 2021 Year of Korea-China Cultural Exchange.
During the event attended by Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan, Chinese Ambassador to Korea Xing Haiming, Chairman of Haenam County Council Kim Byung-deok, and Chairperson of the Korea-China Economic, Cultural and Educational Association Shin Kyung-sook, Ambassador Xing Haiming presented Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan with the book ?治?理政 (Danzhi Guo Yijing) by President Xi Jinping.
Following Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan’s visit to the Chinese Embassy in August last year, Ambassador Xing Haiming made a return visit to Haenam in October, attending the export ceremony of Haenam organic rice to China, continuing active exchanges. The 400-year history of Korea-China friendship dating back to the Imjin War and the deep-rooted friendship between Haenam and China, including Hwangjobjulmyo, have once again attracted attention.
Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, “Through the book donation, we have once again confirmed the strong friendship between China and Haenam, and I hope this will be an opportunity for development that achieves joint results based on the deep trust between the two countries.”
Meanwhile, the book donation ceremony was held online to comply with COVID-19 quarantine measures.
