Chinese Researchers: "Children Have Stronger COVID-19 Transmission Power Than Adults"
Research Team at Huazhong University of Science and Technology Reveals Findings Like This
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] A study has found that children have a stronger transmission power of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) than adults.
On the 21st, Chinese media Pengpai reported this, citing a survey conducted by a research team from Huazhong University of Science and Technology targeting 27,101 households in Wuhan, Hubei Province, where COVID-19 was first confirmed, including confirmed cases and asymptomatic infected individuals, from December 2, 2019, to April 18 of last year.
The paper was recently published in the medical journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
The study found that people aged 60 and over had the highest risk of contracting COVID-19 compared to other age groups. Infants (0?1 years old) also had a higher likelihood of infection than toddlers and children (2?12 years old).
Given the same contact time, children or adolescents were found to be 1.58 times more likely to infect others than the elderly.
Additionally, asymptomatic infected individuals were significantly less likely to infect others compared to symptomatic individuals, and symptomatic individuals showed stronger transmission power before symptom onset than after.
