High-End Gift Sets Over 200,000 Won Popular... Emart "Sales Up 244%"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, consumers seeking high-priced premium gift sets are increasing.
On the 21st, Emart and SSG.com announced that, as a result of a mid-term review of pre-orders for Lunar New Year gift sets, Emart's sales of gift sets priced over 200,000 KRW from December 24 last year to January 19 this year increased by 244.0% compared to the period from December 5 to 31, 2019.
This exceeds the overall gift set sales growth rate of 209.8% during the same period.
During the same period, SSG.com's sales of gift sets over 200,000 KRW also increased by 270.0%. SSG.com expects the proportion of gift sets priced over 200,000 KRW to rise from about 5% during last year's Lunar New Year to 10% this year.
To meet customer demand, Emart and SSG.com increased the planned quantity of the 'Peacock Hanwoo Refrigerated Set No.1 (3kg, 260,000 KRW)' by about 30%, from 3,500 units last Lunar New Year to 4,500 units this year. They also increased the supply of the highest-priced Hanwoo gift set (650,000 KRW), the ‘Peacock Hoengseong Chukhyup Hanwoo 1++ Grade Grilling Set No.1 (3kg)’, by nearly 15%.
Wine gift sets also feature a large selection of premium products.
Emart planned the 'Five Great Chateaux' of the wine world for this Lunar New Year, offering ‘Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2017’ limited to 24 bottles at 1,080,000 KRW, and ‘Chateau Margaux 2017’ limited to 18 bottles at 990,000 KRW. ‘Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2017’ and ‘Chateau Haut-Brion 2017’ are also available in limited quantities of 24 bottles each, priced at 990,000 KRW.
