Two Yonsei University Professors Involved in 'Vice President's Daughter Admission Scandal' Face Arrest Decision
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Professors accused of illegally admitting Ms. A, the daughter of former Yonsei University International Campus Vice President Lee Kyung-tae, to graduate school are now facing the possibility of detention.
At 10:30 a.m. on the 20th, Judge Kwon Kyung-sun of the Seoul Western District Court, in charge of warrants, conducted a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) for Yonsei University Business School professors Jang and Park, who are accused of obstruction of business. After the morning hearing, the professors are currently waiting at the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office. The decision on whether to issue the arrest warrants is expected later in the afternoon.
Earlier, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Choi Myung-gyu) requested arrest warrants for them on the 18th on charges of obstruction of business. It is known that they were exam evaluators when Ms. A took the entrance exam for the Yonsei University Business Administration graduate program in 2016. The prosecution is reportedly investigating a total of 10 Yonsei University Business School professors, including these individuals.
In April of last year, the Ministry of Education requested an investigation by the prosecution into those involved in the fraudulent admission based on an audit result that six professors who were evaluators at the university colluded with the head professor to manipulate oral exam scores of applicants to admit Ms. A to the Business Administration graduate program in 2016.

Ms. A ranked 9th out of 16 applicants in the document screening, which involved quantitative evaluations such as university grades and English scores, but was found to have received a perfect score of 100 in the qualitative oral exam, leading to her final admission.
