Goheung-gun Focuses Administrative Efforts on Inspecting Yuzu Damage and Establishing Countermeasures
Song Guigun, Governor of Goheung County, Inspects Yuzu Cold Damage Site Caused by Winter Cold Wave
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 19th, Goheung County, Jeollanam-do announced that amid the ongoing severe winter cold wave, concerns about damage to winter crops such as Goheung Yuja have led to strengthened field administration to verify the actual situation and prepare damage recovery measures.
County Governor Song Gwigeun, following his visit to the Hallabong harvesting site on the 13th, inspected the extent of damage at Yuja cultivation sites severely affected by the cold wave, focusing on resolving the difficulties faced by Yuja farmers by conducting thorough damage investigations and promptly preparing countermeasures.
Governor Song Gwigeun encouraged farmers by saying, "Although significant damage is expected due to the combined effects of decreased agricultural product consumption and price drops caused by COVID-19 and the cold wave, please do your best to prevent damage," and expressed gratitude for "the passion and pride of our farmers who have upheld the reputation of Goheung Yuja."
Meanwhile, Goheung Yuja occupies 66% of the national production from a cultivation area of 527 hectares (1,469 farms). Production and processing are carried out locally, supporting not only domestic consumption but also exports to over 30 countries worldwide (last year’s export volume was 6,477 tons, amounting to 18,638 thousand USD), establishing itself as a key product that has laid the foundation for farm income.
Going forward, Goheung County plans to complete a detailed damage survey (NDMS input) and establish a damage recovery plan by the 27th, and through consultations with Jeollanam-do and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, aims to finalize support for recovery costs by April this year to alleviate the difficulties of affected farmers.
