One Additional COVID-19 Case Confirmed Among Released Inmate from Dongbu Detention Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] One person released from Seoul Eastern Detention Center has been additionally confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 19th, the additional confirmed case was released from the Eastern Detention Center on December 31 and was finally confirmed positive at Hanam Public Health Center in Gyeonggi Province on the 14th.
The Eastern Detention Center, which conducted the 10th full inspection on 443 staff members and 498 inmates the day before, decided to carry out the 11th full inspection on the 20th after an additional confirmed case was found among the released individuals.
The exact scale of the investigation has not been finalized, but the Ministry of Justice plans to establish additional transfer plans depending on the cluster infection situation within the Eastern Detention Center.

Meanwhile, as of 8 a.m. on the same day, the total cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in correctional facilities nationwide is 1,258, with 667 confirmed inmates currently undergoing treatment in correctional facilities. Among released individuals, 173 have been confirmed positive.
