[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The Korea Coin Karaoke Room Association is filing a lawsuit demanding that Seoul City compensate for losses caused by the COVID-19 gathering ban measures.
On the 18th, the association held a press conference in front of the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, stating, "For the past year, coin karaoke room owners have been sacrificed in the name of quarantine, and the situation has reached a point where we can neither endure nor tolerate it any longer," and claimed, "Our coin karaoke rooms have proven this by maintaining 'zero confirmed cases' through sufficient ventilation facilities and thorough disinfection by managers."
They continued, "Coin karaoke rooms complied with government quarantine guidelines and recorded zero confirmed cases during about 100 days of operation since June last year, but were designated as high-risk facilities without scientific evidence such as droplets or enclosed spaces, resulting in an unfair gathering ban totaling 146 days based on Seoul standards."

The association announced that it will file a civil lawsuit against Seoul City demanding approximately 2.5 billion KRW in compensation for losses. It is also known that they plan to recruit lawsuit participants nationwide in the future. Alongside this, the association stated it will file a constitutional court review, including an unconstitutionality trial, arguing that the absence of loss compensation provisions in the Infectious Disease Control Act violates the constitution.
