275 Cases in the Capital Region, 121 Cases in Non-Capital Regions
No New Confirmed Cases in Sejong and Jeju
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] As of 6 p.m. on the 16th, the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 nationwide was lower than the previous day.
According to the quarantine authorities and local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, the total number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide was 396. This is 35 fewer than the number of confirmed cases at the same time the previous day (431).
By region, the metropolitan area accounted for 275 cases (69.4%), and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 121 cases (30.6%). By city and province, there were 123 cases in Seoul, 121 in Gyeonggi, 31 in Incheon, 21 in Busan, 14 each in Gwangju and Gyeongbuk, 12 each in Daegu, Gangwon, and Gyeongnam, 10 in Jeonnam, 7 each in Ulsan and Chungbuk, 5 in Chungnam, 4 in Jeonbuk, and 3 in Daejeon. No new confirmed cases have yet been reported in Sejong and Jeju.
The number of new confirmed cases to be announced as of midnight on the 17th is expected to increase further. Considering that 149 new confirmed cases were added after 6 p.m. the previous day, the number of confirmed cases as of midnight on the 17th is expected to be around 500.

Looking at major infection cases, in Gwangju, 8 additional cases were confirmed at Hyojeong Nursing Hospital, where a cluster infection occurred. Also, the number of confirmed cases related to the BTJ Yeolbang Center in Sangju, Gyeongbuk, increased by 27 in one day, reaching a cumulative total of 756. In Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, 4 people were confirmed positive within the city. The cumulative number of confirmed cases related to Donggu Detention Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul, is 1,221, and the number of confirmed cases related to hospitals in Goesan, Eumseong, Chungbuk, and Gyeonggi has increased to 438 respectively.
