On the 15th, People Power Party lawmakers Lee Cheol-gyu, Kim Seok-ki, and Kim Young-sik pointed out in a statement, "The public has been engulfed in anxiety due to the nuclear power plant rumors sparked by the Democratic Party and its leader Lee Nak-yeon."
Regarding the issue of 'tritium' detection raised mainly by the ruling party, they stated, "The claims by Leader Lee and the Democratic Party have all been proven false by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), which is supervised by the Moon Jae-in administration, and nuclear experts," adding, "Leader Lee was serving as Prime Minister in April 2019 when the tritium issue was reported to the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC), which is an agency under the Prime Minister."
They continued, "Leader Lee must first answer whether he ignored the matter despite being informed and judging there was a safety issue, or whether he spread the rumor politically even though he judged there was no problem at all," criticizing the ruling party.
The People Power Party lawmakers pointed out Leader Lee's statement that "tritium, a radioactive substance, was detected in underground water at the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant site at levels more than 17 times the standard," saying, "It is a clear false claim to say '17 times the discharge standard' based on measurements taken at a single point inside the nuclear plant," and added, "The tritium standard of 40,000 becquerels per liter is a discharge allowance standard, not an internal measurement standard, and no tritium exceeding the standard was discharged."
Regarding the claim that "artificial radioactive tritium, which does not exist naturally, leaked from the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant," they criticized, "tritium is naturally produced and is a substance that exists in nature, which is common knowledge."

The lawmakers said, "bringing the Board of Audit and Inspection into this matter is a political maneuver by the Blue House and the ruling party to deny the audit results and cover up the ongoing investigation into the 'nuclear phase-out state manipulation' case," and proposed, "since this is a matter related to public safety, let us initiate a parliamentary audit to verify the facts."
