[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do, will provide an emergency disaster relief fund of 100,000 KRW to all Suncheon citizens due to COVID-19.
On the 14th, Suncheon Mayor Heo Seok stated in a video briefing, "There were many difficulties in deciding the timing of the disaster relief fund payment amid the ongoing spread of COVID-19, but fortunately, as the nationwide COVID-19 situation is calming down, we will provide 100,000 KRW in cash to each citizen before the Lunar New Year holiday begins."
The recipients include all Suncheon citizens registered as residents in Suncheon as of the previous day, including marriage immigrants and permanent residents registered as foreigners.
The total expenditure amounts to 28.5 billion KRW, funded by savings from various event and festival budgets from last year.
Suncheon City is accelerating preparations for the disaster relief fund payment, aiming to start disbursement at the end of this month after approval from the Suncheon City Council and complete it by early next month.
Mayor Heo Seok said, "We hope that this disaster relief fund, along with the government's third disaster relief fund, will be used at local self-employed businesses and small merchants to help revitalize the local economy."
