Gwangju Nam-gu, Additional Support for Disabled Students' 'Winter Vacation Activity Support Special Allowance'
Providing 281,000 Won to Disabled Students Attending Middle and High Schools
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 14th that it will additionally provide the ‘Winter Vacation Activity Support Special Allowance’ to address the care gap for disabled students in the district who cannot use middle and high schools during the winter vacation.
The support recipients are students with disabilities receiving activity support benefits who are enrolled in middle or high school, and those using care classrooms operated by schools are excluded from the special allowance support.
Nam-gu plans to provide 281,000 KRW as a winter vacation activity support special allowance to guarantee the learning rights of disabled students who cannot attend school and to support their active external activities.
The special allowance usage period is until the winter vacation of the school the recipient is enrolled in ends, and applications for the special allowance can be submitted by visiting the administrative welfare center in the applicant’s residential neighborhood with an application form and a certificate of enrollment.
The special allowance can be used for purposes such as home bathing or home nursing regardless of the day of the week or time during the vacation period within the limit amount, and even if there is remaining support money after use during the vacation, it cannot be used after the school reopens.
Additionally, the winter vacation activity support special allowance newly provided this time is a temporary support benefit related to COVID-19, not a regular activity support benefit, so it is only supported during the winter vacation period and cannot be used during the short-term spring vacation period conducted ahead of the new semester next month.

A Nam-gu official said, “Through the expanded support of the special allowance, we will minimize the care gap and somewhat reduce the mental burden of parents and families caring for their children,” adding, “We will actively promote the temporary special allowance policy to ensure that disabled students in the district can enjoy more benefits.”
