Ministry of SMEs and Startups, "Achieves Cumulative 20,000 Smart Factory Deployments"
Expansion of Smart Manufacturing Foundation... Also Contributing to K-Quarantine
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] As of last year, more than 20,000 smart factories have been distributed domestically, accelerating the digital transformation of South Korea's manufacturing industry.
According to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups on the 14th, 7,139 smart factories were distributed last year alone, bringing the cumulative total to 19,799, surpassing the target of 17,800. This has turned on a green light for achieving the goal of distributing 30,000 smart factories by 2022.
As a concrete achievement, the advanced rate of smart factories increased to 25.5% last year, up from 17.9% the previous year, as the distribution of smart factories expanded. The private sector-led distribution of smart factories, including large and small-medium enterprise win-win models, also increased to 2,409 units compared to 1,937 units the previous year.
Support for smart factories through public-private cooperation helped mass production of key quarantine supplies such as masks and diagnostic kits, contributing to enhancing the status of K-quarantine. Through the smart reshoring policy, a total of 2.8 billion KRW was invested to support the establishment of smart factories for seven returning companies.
