"Sign Up Online and Receive Your SIM by Courier" LGU+ Expands Self-Activation Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG Uplus is launching a USIM self-activation service on its online direct mall ‘U+Shop’. Amid difficulties in going out due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the company aims to expand the ‘contactless self-activation channel’ where customers can simply fill out an application online and receive the USIM by courier.
According to LG Uplus on the 14th, using USIM self-activation allows easy subscription to fee plans for used phones, unlocked phones, and foreign phones. After filling out a simple application form on the U+Shop website and completing the activation, the USIM is delivered to the customer by courier within 1-2 days. It can be inserted directly into the device and used immediately. For customers who find self-activation inconvenient, a service is also provided where they can leave their name and phone number and activate the service after a consultation with a representative.
Furthermore, starting from the 15th, LG Uplus will gift partnership coupons that can be used like cash for 12 months to customers who subscribe to 5G plans via USIM self-activation on U+Shop. For LTE plan subscribers, they can choose between a 32% monthly discount combining a 7% U+Shop exclusive discount and a selective contract discount, or partnership coupons. The company plans to develop a service that allows self-activation when purchasing phones on U+Shop in the future.
Meanwhile, LG Uplus’s own survey results show a significant increase in customers preferring contactless plan subscriptions. The number of customers responding that they are ‘not accustomed to interacting with store staff (89%, multiple responses allowed)’ and ‘have little experience calling call centers (85%)’ has greatly increased.
