Emart's December Sales Reach 1.32 Trillion KRW, Up 17.5% YoY
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Emart's total sales increased by 5.9% compared to the previous year despite the adverse effects of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) last year.
Emart announced on the 13th that its sales as of December last year amounted to 1.323 trillion KRW, a 17.5% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. This figure represents a 14.8% increase compared to the previous month, which is attributed to the surge in demand for daily necessities due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases.
The total sales in December, including rental fees, increased by 14.6% year-on-year to 1.4363 trillion KRW. The same-store sales growth rate was 13.1%.
By business division, discount stores recorded 1.015 trillion KRW, a 10.3% increase compared to the previous year. Traders increased by 33.8% to 288.7 billion KRW, and specialty stores grew by 20.2% to 117.4 billion KRW.

The total sales from January to December last year were 15.5354 trillion KRW, a 5.9% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, with a same-store sales growth rate of 3.5%.
