[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gimcheon City announced on the 12th that it will invest 134.5 billion KRW in the field of elderly welfare this year.
This is a 25% (26.3 billion KRW) increase compared to last year, accounting for 12.6% of Gimcheon City's total budget.
As the elderly population increases every year, Gimcheon City plans to promote an upgraded elderly welfare policy that reflects the diversified characteristics of the elderly population.
The basic pension, which accounts for the largest portion of the elderly welfare budget, is aimed at stabilizing the old-age life of elderly people aged 65 or older with certain income levels or below. This year, 84.2 billion KRW will be provided to about 25,000 people.
Along with the basic pension, 10 billion KRW will be invested in senior job creation and social activity support, a major old-age income security policy, enabling 2,530 seniors to participate in jobs.
To revitalize the operation of 523 senior centers, which serve as major leisure spaces for local seniors, and to promote the Senior Center Happiness Helper project, a budget of 4 billion KRW has been secured.
In the operation of elderly medical welfare facilities, 9.6 billion KRW will be invested to support benefit costs for basic livelihood security recipients admitted to long-term care institutions and to provide allowances to improve the treatment of workers at elderly welfare facilities.
Additionally, a budget of 3.5 billion KRW has been secured for the elderly customized care project for low-income vulnerable elderly, providing elderly household visit services and elderly participatory services to support social relationship formation through 174 life support workers.
Furthermore, 6.6 billion KRW will be invested to build infrastructure for local elderly welfare services, including the construction of an elderly health center. Along with this, 1.1 billion KRW has been secured to promote the construction and repair of senior centers and village halls. Also, a comprehensive funeral facility under construction with a total budget of 45.4 billion KRW is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
