70s COVID-19 Patient from Cheorwon Nursing Facility Dies Shortly After Hospital Transfer
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A man in his 70s who was admitted to a nursing facility for the elderly in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, tested positive for COVID-19 and was transferred to a hospital but passed away.
According to the provincial health authorities on the 11th, Mr. A (78), who had underlying health conditions, was transferred to Wonju Medical Center around 2 p.m. on the same day immediately after testing positive for COVID-19, but died about 50 minutes later due to worsening symptoms.
Mr. A's wife also tested positive. The couple showed symptoms of COVID-19 on the 10th and received positive test results that morning.
The health authorities investigated that Mr. A had contact with a confirmed case at the facility on the 24th of last month, but due to omission in testimony, he and his wife stayed at home.
The health authorities are conducting an epidemiological investigation into Mr. A's infection route, and the number of COVID-19 deaths in the province has increased to 21.

Meanwhile, seven additional confirmed cases were reported on the same day in four cities/counties including Cheorwon, Wonju, Donghae, and Chuncheon, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Gangwon Province to 1,457.
