Gwangju Nam-gu Issues 'Braille Newsletter' to Bridge Information Gap for Disabled
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) will publish a monthly "Braille Newsletter" starting this year to bridge the information gap for people with disabilities and realize their right to know.
According to Nam-gu on the 11th, from this month until December, the Nam-gu Office newsletter "Nam-gu Story Braille Newsletter," which contains district news as well as stories of residents' lives in the district, will be published once a month.
The Braille newsletter is produced in a size of 190×254 mm (width × height), designed to be easy for visually impaired people to spread out on their palms and read.
The number of pages varies slightly depending on the amount of text included in the newsletter, but it is generally expected to be around 120 pages.
The Braille newsletter is made using a mixed method with Braille on the front side and large print on the back side.
The Braille is intended for visually impaired people who cannot see, with small, round dots embossed so that they can obtain information through their fingertips.
For those with low vision among the visually impaired who can see but have poor eyesight, large and bold printed letters called "Mukja" are used.
This is because many visually impaired people have low vision, and it improves readability and convenience.
The Braille newsletter will be published in 150 copies monthly and provided to visually impaired residents living in the district, local administrative welfare centers, and facilities for the disabled.
