Seoul Reports 141 New COVID-19 Cases Yesterday... Lowest in Over a Month and a Half
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The daily number of new COVID-19 cases in Seoul has reached its lowest point in 47 days.
As of midnight on the 11th, Seoul city announced that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 141 from the previous day, bringing the total cumulative cases to 21,604.
This is the first time since November 24 last year, when there were 142 cases, that the daily new cases in Seoul have dropped to the 140s. The number of confirmed cases peaked at 552 on December 24 and 522 on December 28, then recorded 329 on January 3 and 297 on January 6. Between January 7 and 10, the numbers have consecutively decreased to 191, 188, 187, and 141 respectively over four days.
On the previous day, new cluster infections were confirmed at a nursing hospital in Gangdong-gu (cumulative 11 cases) and a hospital in Eunpyeong-gu (cumulative 10 cases). Additional confirmed cases were also reported at a nursing hospital and nursing home in Guro-gu (cumulative 222 cases), an elderly facility in Dongdaemun-gu (cumulative 43 cases), and the Dongbu Detention Center in Songpa-gu (cumulative 1,160 cases).
Other cases include 76 from contact with confirmed patients, 4 from contact with confirmed patients in other cities and provinces, 4 imported cases, and 45 cases with infection routes under investigation.
The death toll increased by 8, bringing the total number of deaths to 238.
So far, 15,534 people in Seoul have been declared recovered and discharged, while 5,832 are currently undergoing isolation treatment.
