O'Brien's consideration of resignation is known to be related to issues concerning the Vice President's role in the presidential election results rather than the protesters' breach of the Capitol on that day. O'Brien reportedly supported Vice President Pence's position that the Vice President does not have the authority to overturn the Electoral College results during the joint session of Congress to certify the election results.
O'Brien stated, "I spoke with Vice President Pence, and he was truly a person who fulfilled his role," adding, "He showed courage today as he did at the Capitol during 9/11. I am proud to stand with him."

In a statement, she said, "I am honored to have served the country at the White House and proud to have carried out Mrs. Trump's work helping children everywhere.
