'Hwang Hana, Suspected of Drug Charges, Appears for Detention Hearing Today... Again Remains Silent'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] Hwang Hana (33), the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, who is accused of drug use again during her probation period, appeared at the court's warrant hearing on the 7th.
Hwang arrived at the Seoul Western District Court about 30 minutes early to attend the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) held at 10:30 a.m. that day. At the scene, reporters asked questions such as "Do you admit to the drug use charges?" but Hwang headed to the court without any response.
The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul applied for an arrest warrant against Hwang on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. Hwang was indicted for using methamphetamine at her home in Seoul from May to September 2015 and was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation in the appellate trial in November 2019. This sentence was finalized, and she is currently under probation, but she has been booked again on drug use charges.

Last month, a post demanding punishment for Hwang was uploaded on the Blue House National Petition Board. The petitioner who wrote the post claimed, "Drug offender Hwang has been consistently committing recidivism, but due to the lukewarm response of the investigative agencies despite testimonies and confessions from those around her, the investigation has not progressed," and added, "Hwang is stalling time by bleaching her hair and receiving IV drips, which are tricks that make it highly likely that drugs will not be detected."
