[IssueLaw] Department Head Giving 'Lotto' as New Year's Gift Must Say This Phrase
[Asia Economy PD Yoon Jin-geun] How many people wished to win the first prize in the lottery as their New Year's wish for 2021?
Interest in domestic lottery tickets is heating up. In 2019, lottery sales approached 4.3 trillion won. In the first half of 2020 alone, lottery tickets worth 2.6 trillion won were sold.
During the same year, from February 20 to 26, the sales of the 943rd lottery draw amounted to 100.08143 billion won, exceeding 100 billion won in a single week.
However, various legal disputes and conflicts surrounding the lottery are not uncommon. On the Asia Economy YouTube channel’s ‘Lee Park Choi Legal Center,’ lawyer Park Seong-min appeared to discuss the lottery.
We examined cases where legal disputes arose over lottery prize amounts and how courts resolved them through actual precedents.
We looked into the highest lottery prize amount in Korean history and examined taxes on lottery winnings. Then, we compared Korea’s two major lotteries, the Pension Lottery 720+ and Lotto 6/45, analyzing which one is more advantageous to win.
Especially toward the end of the video, we explored the expiration period for lottery winnings and revealed tips for winners to receive their prize money in advance.
Lawyer Park Seong-min said, “Even if you don’t win the lottery, I hope 2021 will be a year full of fortune and financial luck.”
