"Overcoming COVID-19, from Therapeutics and Vaccine Development"…Korea Health Industry Development Institute Survey
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] The public responded that in order to overcome the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), support for the development of treatments and vaccines is necessary.
According to the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, 70.1% of the surveyed population answered that the development of treatments and vaccines is the most important to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Following that, 18.5% of respondents said the development of rapid diagnostic kits is important, with production of quarantine supplies (9.1%) and introduction of non-face-to-face medical services (2.2%) coming next.
The Korea Health Industry Development Institute conducted an online public perception survey on the health industry with 1,000 citizens from September 23 to October 30 last year. Separately, the institute also conducted surveys targeting 300 health industry workers and 200 medical professionals.

Among medical professionals, 81.5% expected that advanced healthcare technologies would be applied clinically after COVID-19. However, there were also considerable concerns regarding advanced technologies such as genetic testing and advanced regenerative medicine, citing reasons such as lack of safety verification, cost burden, and social and ethical issues.
