Sangju City Opens Youth Incubation Center in Smart Farm Innovation Valley in First Half of Year... Completion Scheduled for Year-End
Large-Scale National Project Investing 145.5 Billion Won... "Expanding Rental-Type Smart Greenhouses to 6ha"

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The overall progress rate of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Smart Farm Innovation Valley development project, being constructed in the Eomam-ri area of Sabal-myeon, Sangju City, has exceeded 35%, revealing its overall outline.
According to Sangju City on the 6th, this project, which began construction on December 20, 2019, is a large-scale national project with an investment of 145.5 billion KRW and is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
Sangju City plans to prioritize the opening of core facilities such as the Youth Incubation Center, rental-type smart farms, and demonstration greenhouses in the first half of the year, and complete all facilities including the demonstration support center and related facilities like the Youth Rural Settlement in the second half.
Regarding the Youth Incubation Center, full-scale operations are planned from the second half of 2021 for 52 trainees. Here, startup farmers will be nurtured through the latest smart agriculture education, while talents for upstream and downstream industries such as smart farm equipment industries will be cultivated.
In the demonstration complex for standardization and certification of smart farm equipment, 19 companies have expressed their intention to move in, creating an opportunity to become a hub for smart farm-related industries.
Lee Geon-hee, Director of the Smart Agriculture Promotion Team, explained, "This year, we secured 15 billion KRW for additional construction of rental-type smart farms, and through this, we plan to expand the existing 4 hectares of rental smart greenhouses to 6 hectares. Here, 12 trainees per cohort from the Youth Incubation Center will be leased smart farms for three years, providing startup opportunities."

Meanwhile, the 'Gyeongbuk Smart Farm Innovation Valley' is a government-led top 8 innovation growth project that installs facilities such as the Youth Incubation Center, rental-type smart farms, demonstration complexes, Agricultural Product Distribution Center (APC), and Youth Rural Settlement on 42.7 hectares. It is the largest single agricultural sector public project in Gyeongsangbuk-do history.
