Two More Confirmed Infected with UK-Origin Variant Virus...Total Now 12 (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Two additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 infected with the variant virus originating from the UK have been identified.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 5th, variant viruses from the UK were detected in samples from two individuals: a person in their 30s who entered from the UK on December 13 last year, and a person in their 20s who entered from the UK on the 20th.
As a result, the total number of cases infected with variant viruses circulating in the UK and South Africa has increased to 12 in South Korea. Among them, 11 cases are from the UK variant, and 1 case is from the South African variant.

The two newly confirmed cases of the UK variant virus were diagnosed positive during self-quarantine after entry. Subsequent whole genome sequencing (NGS·Next Generation Sequencing) tests conducted by health authorities confirmed infection with the variant virus.
