Gwangju Dong-gu Selected for 'Development Restriction Zone Resident Support Project'
Promotion of Seongyo District Complex Park Development and Neoritjae Children's Forest Renovation Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 5th that two projects were selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2021 Development Restriction Zone Resident Support Project' contest, securing a project budget of 6.6 billion KRW.
The Development Restriction Zone Resident Support Project aims to alleviate the inconveniences of residents living around development restriction zones and improve their quality of life by expanding living infrastructure.
Dong-gu was selected for the environmental and cultural sector's 'Neoritjae Early Childhood Forest Renovation Project' (1 billion KRW) and the living infrastructure and welfare promotion sector's 'Seongyo Reservoir Complex Lake Park Creation Project' (5.6 billion KRW), respectively.
With the secured project budget, Dong-gu plans to create a pleasant living infrastructure utilizing the natural environment and develop a large-scale complex park to enhance resident welfare.
In particular, since the Naenam and Seongyo districts are located on the outskirts of the city, where it is difficult to secure parks and other resting spaces, this project selection is expected to guarantee leisure activity opportunities for nearby residents and provide experiential and exploration attractions.
First, through the Neoritjae Early Childhood Forest Renovation Project, over the next two years, Dong-gu plans to organize the Shelter In The Forest space at the Neoritjae Early Childhood Forest Experience Center to provide forest experience activities for young children.
Additionally, through the Seongyo Reservoir Complex Lake Park Creation Project, a complex walking course for convenience and recreation of residents in the Seongyo and Naenam districts will be developed, including the creation of a waterside walking trail around Seongyo Reservoir.
Taking this project selection as an opportunity, Dong-gu plans to create ecological landscape forests and forest experience facilities utilizing the pristine natural scenery by linking the Seongyo development restriction zone area with Mudeungsan National Park, and establish a nature-friendly ecological cultural tourism belt connected to the National Asia Culture Center area, aiming to develop a new ecological cultural city in the era of COVID-19 daily life.
