Gwanak-gu Completes Creation of Women’s Safety Village
Nation's First Safety Security Window, Insect Screen, and Safe Home 3-Piece Set, Safe Bell Supported at 355 Locations... Customized Women's Safety Projects Considering Regional Characteristics to Create Safe Local Environments
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has completed the Women’s Single-Person Household Safe Village Creation Project to build a safety-based city in Gwanak that everyone can enjoy together.
Since the launch of the 7th local government, the district was selected as a ‘Women-Friendly City’ by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and reflecting the regional characteristic of having the highest proportion of women single-person households (27.4%) nationwide, it carried out the ‘Women’s Single-Person Household Safe Village Creation Project.’
The Safe Village Creation Project is a program that supports the installation of safety home sets, security window bars and insect screens, and safety bells for women single-person households residing in Gwanak-gu to realize ‘women’s happiness and safety.’
First, the district conducted a security window bar and insect screen support project targeting residences with poor living environments and vulnerable safety conditions such as one-room, multi-family, and multiplex houses for safe residential life, the first of its kind nationwide.
Initially, the project was carried out in four pilot areas: Cheongnyong-dong, Sinwon-dong, Seowon-dong, and Seorim-dong, but expanded to all areas upon residents’ requests. Out of 110 applications, support was provided to 80 locations where installation was possible after on-site visits.
Additionally, 250 households of women single-person households were provided with the ‘Safe Home 3-piece Set (auxiliary door lock, door opening sensor, portable emergency bell)’ as safety items to prevent crimes, striving to reduce women’s anxiety about crime in daily life.
Furthermore, 25 stores operated solely by women (owners) were provided with safety emergency bells and had safe store certification plaques attached, contributing to supporting the economic activities of women owners and preventing criminal incidents.
Besides these, the district is also the first nationwide to support wandering detectors for women with intellectual disabilities, provide self-inspection equipment rental services for illegal filming cameras at community service centers, operate safe return scouts, and create two women’s safe one-room residences, making thorough efforts to create a safe local environment for women.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “We will actively promote our district’s unique women’s safety policy projects reflecting regional characteristics,” and added, “We will continue to significantly expand safety infrastructure so that women and socially vulnerable residents can live with peace of mind.”
