Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency → Jeonnam Police Agency, Name Changed After 30 Years
Jeollanam-do Police Agency Monument Unveiling Ceremony Held
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 4th at 10 a.m. at the main gate of the agency that the name has been changed from ‘Local Police Agency’ to ‘Jeollanam-do Police Agency’ for the first time in 30 years since its establishment as a ‘Local Police Agency’ in 1991, and held a plaque unveiling ceremony.
The name change from ‘Jeonnam Local Police Agency’ to ‘Jeollanam-do Police Agency’ was made in accordance with the enforcement of the Police Act, which includes the introduction of the autonomous police system and the establishment of the National Investigation Headquarters as major contents, and it more clearly reflects the characteristics of the Jeollanam-do Police Agency, which comprehensively shares and performs national, investigative, and autonomous police affairs.
The term ‘local’ included in the name of administrative agencies generally means an institution that shares and performs national affairs within the relevant region.
With the deletion of ‘local’ from the names of city and provincial police agencies, the legal amendment intention to faithfully reflect that autonomous police affairs are performed simultaneously with national police affairs was fulfilled.
Also, to ensure smooth preparation before the implementation of the autonomous police system, an autonomous police task force led by three department heads has been organized to revise laws and internal regulations, and work is underway to reorganize the organization, affairs, and personnel of the Jeollanam-do Police Agency and police stations.
Going forward, the task force installed at the Jeonnam Provincial Government Office will closely cooperate to promptly complete preparatory work such as launching the autonomous police committee and enacting and revising ordinances, conduct pilot operations in the first half of the year to improve and supplement issues, and officially implement the autonomous police system from July 1.
Along with this, to establish security policies suitable for the characteristics of our region during the performance of autonomous police affairs and to establish a responsible investigative system following the adjustment of investigative authority, some subordinate organizations have also been reorganized.
An autonomous police deputy chief assisting the city and provincial police chiefs has been newly established, and the previously integrated Security and Traffic Division has been separated into the Security Division and the Traffic Division.
To comprehensively manage and coordinate security situations, the ‘112 Comprehensive Situation Room’ has been renamed the ‘112 Security Comprehensive Situation Room,’ and through overall command of all police functions, the response capability to incidents and accidents will be further enhanced.
Meanwhile, investigative functions are being reorganized centered on the Investigation Department head, and security functions have been reorganized into the Security Investigation Division under the Investigation Department.
A new ‘Investigation Officer’ assisting the Investigation Department head has been established, and ‘Investigation Review Officers’ have been assigned to the Mokpo and Yeosu Police Stations to strengthen expertise and fairness in the investigation process, including warrant applications and case closures.
