Incheon City to Deliver Food Market Items for Disabled and Elderly Starting February
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Starting next month, delivery services will be implemented at all 14 food markets in the Incheon area.
The food market project provides approximately five donated food items and other daily necessities free of charge once a month to economically disadvantaged emergency support recipients and lower-income groups.
Currently, users visit the food markets in person to select and receive items, but going forward, users with mobility difficulties such as the disabled and elderly can apply to have desired items delivered to their homes.
Incheon City plans to promote the delivery project in cooperation with the City Social Welfare Council using a resident participation budget of 463 million KRW. This project is the first of its kind to be implemented nationwide.
Item delivery will be conducted in a non-face-to-face manner using one additional staff member newly hired at each food market this year and self-support work personnel.
To participate in food market donations or apply for delivery services, contact the food market in each district or county.

An Incheon City official stated, "We will provide safe delivery to users hesitant to visit food markets due to COVID-19, and we expect this to revitalize the recruitment of donated goods, which is a concern due to the prolonged economic downturn and low private donations."
