Analysis of Emart24 Sales Data from January 1 to 3
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] This year, convenience stores have seen an increase in sales of daily necessities and alcoholic beverages, unlike last year when resolution (commitment) products were more popular.
On the 4th, Emart24 analyzed sales data from January 1 to 3 this year and found that sales of alcoholic beverages and food items significantly increased compared to the same period last year. The growth rates were as follows: soju 98%, traditional liquor 85%, beer 81%, vegetables and seasonings 78%, home meal replacements (HMR) 71%, large-sized beverages 68%, instant noodles 49%, and instant rice 43%.
Along with this, sales of daily necessities also noticeably increased, including kitchen and bathroom supplies by 72%, detergents by 51%, roll tissues and kitchen towels by 45%, toothpaste and toothbrushes by 41%, and shaving products by 38%.
On the other hand, sales of stationery (119%), envelopes (87%), notebooks (59%), salads (128%), silver candies (54%), candies (49%), jelly (46%), and gum (40%), which recorded high growth rates last year, only saw single-digit increases this year. It is interpreted that purchases of resolution products such as stationery for writing New Year's plans, envelopes for giving money to parents, and salads, candies, and gum for dieting and quitting smoking have decreased this year.
It is also believed that Emart24's largest-ever daily necessities discount event held throughout January had an impact. During January, various products totaling about 1,900 items are being sold with discounts such as one-plus-one (1+1), two-plus-one (2+1), and free gifts.
