[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Jin Ok-dong, CEO of Shinhan Bank, emphasized on the 4th, "Let's achieve sustainable growth through digital transformation, strengthening competitiveness, and coexistence."
In his New Year's address, CEO Jin introduced Shinhan Bank's strategic goal for this year as "Customer-Centric! The Standard of Future Finance, a Leap to First-Class," and spoke accordingly.
He said, "What we must hurry with right now is 'digital transformation,'" adding, "The fate of the organization depends on the success of this." To this end, he announced plans to focus resources on developing data and AI capabilities and to lower the threshold for talent recruitment. He also added that future capability development plans will be promoted step-by-step and that systems and cultures optimized for digital will be created.
He also emphasized the "fundamental strengthening of competitiveness" in the financial industry. CEO Jin stated, "The culture of growth together will be promoted with the value of 'good faith and sincerity' at its core," and said, "We will definitely regain the reputation of being a 'house of soundness and risk management' from the past."
In particular, he stressed, "In the face of a global pandemic, the value of coexistence is growing even more," and "We will actively engage in creating social value such as ESG and innovative financial support."
CEO Jin emphasized the attitude of ‘Haengbilsungshil (行必誠實)’, meaning to act but always with sincerity.

He explained, "It is time to unite our hearts to maintain trust with customers and society and to not be ashamed before colleagues and ourselves," adding, "If our commitment does not lead to action, even the great cry of customer-centricity will lose its meaning."
