251 New COVID-19 Cases in Seoul on New Year's Day... 4 Additional Deaths Reported
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] On the first day of the new year, January 1, the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Seoul was 251, the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 2nd. This figure matches that of December 14 and is the joint lowest in the past 19 days.
Accordingly, the streak of daily confirmed cases exceeding 300 in Seoul, which lasted from December 15 to 31, ended after 17 days.
However, the number of cases exceeding 200 per day has continued for 31 consecutive days since December 2, and cases exceeding 100 per day have been maintained for 45 consecutive days since November 18.
The number of COVID-19 deaths in Seoul increased by 4 on January 1, bringing the cumulative total to 186. Detailed information such as the dates of death for the deceased has not been immediately disclosed.
Among the new confirmed cases in Seoul on January 1, 246 were locally transmitted, i.e., domestic infections, excluding 5 cases imported from overseas.
Among these, 38 cases were confirmed at temporary screening clinics. Since the operation of temporary screening clinics began in Seoul on December 14 until January 1, over 19 days, a total of 1050 cases have been confirmed through anonymous testing of 370,896 samples.

As of midnight on January 2, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Seoul stands at 19,614. The number of patients currently in isolation is 8,576, and those released from isolation total 10,852.
