Government Secures Supply of 106 Million Doses Through Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Purchase Contract
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The government announced on the 31st that it has signed a pre-purchase contract for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
This follows an agreement on the 28th between President Moon Jae-in and Moderna CEO St?phane Bancel, after which the contract wording was negotiated and finalized. According to the agreement and the contract signed on this day, our government decided to purchase 40 million doses of the Moderna vaccine (a dose refers to one injection). This quantity is double the initially planned 20 million doses for 20 million people. The supply schedule was also advanced from the third quarter of next year to the second quarter.
The government has completed purchase contracts totaling 106 million doses, including 20 million doses through the existing COVAX Facility, 20 million doses of AstraZeneca, 20 million doses of Pfizer, and 6 million doses of Janssen. Excluding Janssen, the other vaccines provide two doses per person, covering 56 million people.
