[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced that instead of the annual year-end gatherings, the residents' intention to meaningfully conclude the year by practicing sharing to help neighbors in need is continuing as acts of neighborly love and sharing.
In Macheon 1-dong and Wirye-dong, local residents are practicing neighborly love by delivering winter supplies they made themselves to elderly living alone and vulnerable groups in need within the community.
First, the Macheon 1-dong "Love’s Warmth (心) Warmth (心)" volunteer group, consisting of 15 members, carefully made 80 scarves and delivered them to low-income elderly residents vulnerable to the cold wave in the area.
Also, the Macheon 1-dong village planning group conveyed warm hearts by delivering 150 homemade yuja-cheong (citron marmalade) jars to about 100 elderly living alone and vulnerable groups feeling depressed due to COVID-19 through the "Yuja-cheong Making and Sharing Event."
In Wirye-dong, contactless neighborly love sharing continued as well. Twelve members of the Wirye-dong Residents’ Autonomy Committee participated and delivered 60 knitted scarves to elderly living alone who are experiencing difficulties in daily life due to COVID-19, helping them stay warm during the cold winter.
In addition, warm news of neighborly love practiced by residents of Garak 1-dong and Pungnap 1-dong was delivered. The Garak 1-dong Residents’ Autonomy Committee donated 1 million KRW in neighbor-helping funds, hoping to assist neighbors who are especially struggling this year due to COVID-19. The Pungnap 1-dong Community Service Center donated 5 million KRW as part of the 1+1 Our Neighborhood Hope Sponsor project to support low-income crisis households in the district.
Meanwhile, the Songpa 1-dong village planning group installed 65 solar (Solar) marker lights using eco-friendly renewable solar energy in safety-vulnerable areas. The solar marker lights charge solar power during the day and light up LEDs at night. The village planning group created safety inspection sheets themselves and, based on the survey results by district, selected two locations on Baekjegobun-ro 41-gil and 44-gil, which are vulnerable to nighttime pedestrian safety, and installed the solar marker lights to protect residents’ safety.
