[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Chosun University has reached a final conclusion that singer Hong Jin-young plagiarized her master's thesis.
On the 23rd, Chosun University held a graduate school committee meeting and announced, "Hong Jin-young's master's thesis has been judged as plagiarism, and accordingly, administrative procedures to revoke the degree will be initiated."
Chosun University stated, "Since 2011, we have strengthened the guidance and supervision duties assigned to thesis advisors to prevent plagiarism and other research ethics violations, and we will operate the research ethics management system more thoroughly."
Accordingly, Hong Jin-young's master's and doctoral degrees from Chosun University are expected to be revoked.
Previously, controversy arose when media reports revealed that Hong Jin-young's master's thesis in the Department of Trade at Chosun University, titled 'A Study on Trends in the Cultural Content Industry through Hallyu,' showed a plagiarism rate of 74% according to the plagiarism detection site 'Copykiller.'
As the controversy grew, Hong Jin-young explained in an apology statement, "It was a practice followed at the time," adding, "Now that it is judged by just a few percentage points, no matter what I say, it can only be seen as an excuse, so I feel frustrated and upset."
