'Worry Over Vaccine First-Place Competition' Statement by Son Young-rae... People's Party Calls It a "Historic Blunder"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The People's Party criticized Son Young-rae, head of the Strategic Planning Division of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH), calling his remark that "there is a worrying atmosphere as if our society must be the first in the world to receive the vaccine" an "unprecedented blunder."
Hong Kyung-hee, chief deputy spokesperson, stated in a commentary on the 23rd, "When did our people ever ask the government authorities to make us the number one country in vaccine inoculation?" and criticized accordingly.
He said, "We simply demanded a normal life from next year by securing vaccines through prompt responses like other countries, no more, no less," and pointed out, "Is it reasonable for government officials to distort facts and shift the responsibility for being far behind in the vaccine procurement race onto the people, ignoring these earnest wishes of the public?"
Deputy spokesperson Hong criticized, "The serious concern lies not with our society but with the perception of the government quarantine authorities," and added, "I hope Son, the division head, answers what exactly he is trying to manage in that position."

He urged, "It is questionable whether the CDSCH is not a disaster management headquarters from the Blue House that is cornered and falling behind in the vaccine procurement competition rather than managing an accident," and called on the government to "immediately apologize to the public for the inappropriate remarks and take prompt action against Son, who appears to have no strategy at all."
