Ministry of Justice Finalizes Selection of Special Pardon Recipients
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Ministry of Justice has selected the fourth group of special pardon recipients since President Moon Jae-in took office.
According to the legal community on the 23rd, the Pardon Review Committee held plenary meetings over two days starting on the 21st and selected the special pardon recipients. Previously, the Ministry of Justice had instructed frontline prisons and detention centers last month to prepare and report lists of inmates eligible for special pardons.
Justice Minister Chu Mi-ae is expected to report the results of the Pardon Review Committee meetings to President Moon soon, and President Moon is anticipated to exercise his pardon authority through a Cabinet meeting as early as next week.
This special pardon mainly included 'livelihood offenders.' Former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook and former Unified Progressive Party lawmaker Lee Seok-ki were reportedly excluded from the pardon list.
