[2021 Regular Admission Special] Find Your Customized Strategy... Check Final Recruitment Numbers Before Application Submission
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The score reports for the 2021 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), held amid the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), will be distributed on the 23rd.
According to the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, the highest standard scores this year were 144 points in the Korean language section and 137 points in both Mathematics Type A and Type B. Looking at the characteristics by subject, the number of perfect scorers in the Korean language section was 151 (0.04%), a sharp decrease compared to 777 (0.16%) last year. The number of students in the top 1st and 2nd grades also decreased by 11,032, indicating a higher discrimination among top ranks in the Korean language section. In Mathematics Type A, the number of students in the top 1st and 2nd grades increased by 366, and the number of perfect scorers rose by 78 to 971 (0.7%) compared to the previous year. For Mathematics Type B, the number of perfect scorers increased by 766 this year, but the number of students in the top 1st and 2nd grades decreased by 5,309 compared to the previous year.
The English section, which is graded on an absolute scale, saw the 1st grade ratio exceed 12.66% for the first time. This is an increase of 17,257 students compared to the previous year. With a significant increase in the number of 1st grade students in the relatively easier English section, the minimum CSAT score requirements for early admission may be somewhat compensated. However, due to the difficulty of the Korean language section, there is also a possibility that many examinees may fail to meet the minimum academic standards. For the inquiry subjects, most universities use converted standard scores based on percentiles rather than the standard scores shown on the score reports.

It is advantageous to calculate the converted standard scores for inquiry subjects, which are released by each university after the CSAT score announcement, in advance. The number of unfilled spots from early admissions will be carried over to the regular admissions. Therefore, it is essential to check the final number of recruits on each university’s website before the start of regular application submissions. This year, the final registration deadline for early admissions is January 5 of next year, and the regular application submission begins on January 7.
