Haegum Player Lee Taekyung's Second Album 'Haegum, Listening Up Close'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Lee Tae-kyung, a haegeum player and the first designated holder of the Jongmyo Jeryeak, National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 1, has released his second album, "Haegeum, Listening Up Close: Sanjo and Folk Songs."
In this album, Lee Tae-kyung introduces Korea's representative instrumental solo genre Sanjo and vocal folk songs anew through collaboration with Western instruments. Instead of the traditional janggu drum rhythms in Sanjo, he presents new accompaniment methods using instruments like drums and percussion, and also experiments with collaborations involving acoustic guitar and piano. This fusion of traditional Korean instruments and Western instruments aims to make traditional music more accessible and familiar to the general public.
In his first album released last year, "Great Love," Lee Tae-kyung performed Western-style hymns on the haegeum. Since last year, he has been carrying out a "one album per year" project, committing to releasing one album annually.
Lee Tae-kyung's second album and its tracks were released on the 17th. The album includes 13 songs, such as "Singosan Taryeong," which features a shuffle rhythm.
