Yonsei Medical Center Secures 23 Additional ICU Beds for COVID-19 Patients
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Yonsei Medical Center announced on the 22nd that Severance Hospital and Gangnam Severance Hospital have each secured an additional 20 and 3 beds, respectively, for the treatment of patients with the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Severance Hospital has been operating 5 beds for severe patients, but due to the increase in patients, it has secured an additional 20 beds. More than half of these will be designated for the treatment of critically ill patients.
These beds are equipped with negative pressure facilities and are set up in infectious disease wards to ensure the safety of both patients and medical staff. A total of 130 specialists and nurses capable of caring for critically ill patients will be deployed.
Severance Hospital treated 38 COVID-19 patients until the 17th of this month. Among them, 5 are currently hospitalized, 25 have been discharged, and 6 were transferred to hospitals where mild treatment is possible as their condition improved.
Gangnam Severance Hospital has secured 3 additional beds dedicated to the treatment of severe COVID-19 patients. More than 45 dedicated medical staff will be assigned.
Since March of this year, Gangnam Severance Hospital has been operating 5 beds for COVID-19 patients. As of the 22nd of this month, it has treated 26 hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Currently, 5 are hospitalized, and 21 have either fully recovered and been discharged or transferred to living treatment centers.

Additionally, Yongin Severance Hospital, which opened in March this year, is completing internal facility construction to secure COVID-19 treatment beds for moderate and mild patients.
