Samsung Heavy Industries Secures Order for 2 LNG Carriers Worth 403.5 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 22nd that it has secured orders for two LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers worth a total of 403.5 billion KRW from an Oceania-based shipping company. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially by September 2024 upon contract activation.
Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has demonstrated strong momentum by successfully securing orders for four LNG carriers worth approximately 810 billion KRW over two days.
As a result, Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative order record for this year stands at 32 vessels, totaling 4.8 billion USD, achieving 57% of its order target of 8.4 billion USD.
A Samsung Heavy Industries official stated, "The newbuilding market, which had frozen due to the pandemic, is gradually warming up in the second half of the year," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that the projects currently under negotiation also lead to order contracts within this year."
