Geumcheon-gu to Implement Daily Household Waste Collection System Starting Next Year
Starting January 1 Next Year, Daily Household Waste Collection System Implemented and Enforcement Strengthened... Scheduled Separation and Disposal of Waste Vinyl and Clear PET Bottles Introduced
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that starting January 1, 2021, it will reform its cleaning administrative services, including implementing a daily collection system for household waste, to improve cleaning services and create a pleasant urban environment.
Until now, the district collected household waste on designated days by neighborhood, operating on a thrice-weekly alternate-day schedule. However, issues such as storage problems on non-collection days, confusion about collection days leading to waste abandonment, and illegal dumping have occurred, resulting in continuous related complaints.
Accordingly, from January 1 next year, the district will implement a daily collection system for household waste (general household waste, food waste, recyclables) on all days except Saturdays.
Under this system, each household should place general household waste and food waste in their respective volume-based bags, and recyclables in transparent bags, and dispose of them in front of their homes or shops between 6 p.m. and midnight.
The district will also strengthen guidance on compliance with disposal times and crack down on illegal dumping following the implementation of the daily collection system. Twelve personnel will be deployed day and night to conduct special inspections and guidance throughout the district.
The targets for inspection (guidance) include failure to use volume-based bags, mixing recyclables and food waste in volume-based bags, and non-compliance with disposal times.
In addition, the district will promote the ‘Separated Disposal Day for Waste Vinyl and Transparent PET Bottles’ in line with Seoul city policies. This requires disposing of waste vinyl and transparent PET bottles only on Thursdays to secure high-quality recyclables, which is expected to increase recycling rates and reduce overall waste volume.
Furthermore, starting next year, the district plans to implement various policies to create a clean, waste-free Geumcheon, including the ‘Clean City Geumcheon Proclamation Ceremony,’ ‘Clean City Image Building,’ ‘Resident Tours of Waste Facilities,’ and activities such as ‘Resident Briefings, Campaigns, Contests, and Competitions’ aimed at waste reduction.
