Gwangyang City Council Adopts Statement on POSCO Industrial Accident Countermeasures
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] On the 21st, the Gwangyang City Council adopted a statement urging the establishment of measures to prevent the recurrence of industrial accidents at POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks during the 3rd plenary session of the 2nd regular meeting of the 294th session.
At POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks, 3 people died during oxygen pipe equipment work on the 24th of last month, and over the past year, more than 10 casualties have occurred due to industrial accidents.
The city council emphasized that since industrial accidents occur due to complex factors, reducing safety accidents must be the top priority, and that it is an issue that must be resolved even if it requires significant costs.
POSCO was strongly urged to recognize the seriousness of the ongoing industrial accidents despite promises to prevent recurrence and to devise effective and extraordinary measures.
Furthermore, POSCO was instructed to promptly and thoroughly investigate to identify the causes, establish fundamental countermeasures, and swiftly implement the special measures to prevent safety accidents announced on the 2nd to ensure workers' safety.
Finally, POSCO was urged to demonstrate its efforts in accident prevention through an active attitude and investment.
