Geoje City, First in Gyeongnam to Raise Social Distancing to Level 2.5 ... Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong "Serious Situation"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Geoje City in Gyeongnam Province has decided to raise social distancing to level 2.5, the first in Gyeongnam.
Geoje City announced that social distancing has been raised to level 2.5 from midnight on the 21st until midnight on the 27th.
The 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam are currently at social distancing level 2. The upgrade to level 2.5 is a preemptive and strong quarantine measure implemented for the first time in Gyeongnam.
In Geoje, more than 40 confirmed cases occurred in December alone, centered around large shipyards. Chain infections in the local community, including homes and schools, are continuing beyond the initial infection source, the shipyards.
In addition to the five types of entertainment facilities already prohibited from gathering under level 2, gathering bans will be enforced on singing practice rooms, indoor standing concert halls, direct sales promotion centers such as door-to-door sales, indoor sports facilities, and academies.

Byun Gwang-yong, mayor of Geoje City, said, “Since the recent cluster infections centered on the shipyards have now spread beyond the shipyards into the local community and the speed of spread is fast, we will do our best to block the spread of infection sources through strong quarantine measures by raising the social distancing level.”
