Jeongeup-si Receives Excellence Award from Jeonbuk Province for Dementia Management Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] The Dementia Safety Center in Jeongeup-si, Jeonbuk announced on the 18th that it received an award for excellence from Jeonbuk Province for its dementia management project in 2020.
This evaluation was conducted to select and commend outstanding institutions by measuring the performance and efforts in dementia-related work in all cities and counties within Jeonbuk Province in 2020.
The Dementia Safety Center was recognized for its high-quality dementia patient management and contributions to dementia prevention and emotional support for local community residents.
Relocated and newly built in March at Geumbung-dong Senior Welfare Town, the Dementia Safety Center has established an integrated management service support system including dementia prevention for citizens, dementia patient registration management, and customized case management.
Additionally, efforts have been made to suppress the progression of dementia patients, reduce social costs, improve awareness of dementia, and provide support for families of dementia patients.
New specialized projects included a gardening program for mild dementia patients, herb therapy for families of dementia patients, and a mini garden cultivation program in dementia-safe villages.
In particular, sensory stimulation programs (olfactory, visual, gustatory, tactile) using various aromatic plant resources were applied to help improve cognitive abilities and reduce depression in mild dementia patients, as well as reduce stress for families of dementia patients.
