Actor Kim Sumi Launches ‘Sumi-ne Banchan’ Business in Full Swing at Fantagio
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Actress Kim Sumi plans to fully launch the ‘Sumi’s Side Dishes’ business under the comprehensive entertainment company Fantagio.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure on the 16th, Fantagio will appoint actress Kim Sumi (real name Kim Youngok) and her son Jung Myungho as inside directors at the extraordinary general meeting of shareholders scheduled for the 31st. Also, Park Moonhae, who will be appointed as an inside director at this meeting, is a former head of Gravity’s global business division and is known as a major player in the gaming industry, suggesting Fantagio’s entry into new business areas.
Kim Sumi passed the MBC 3rd talent recruitment exam in 1971 and has been active in TV dramas, movies, and variety shows. Notably, she played the role of ‘Ilyong Eomni’ in the popular rural drama ‘Jeonwon Ilgi’ which aired from 1980, performing passionately for 21 years. Her major works include TV dramas Jeonwon Ilgi, Bali-e-seo Saenggin Il, and Obaksane Saramdeul, and films such as Gamun-ui Buhwal, Halmeoni, and Yukhyulpo Gangdodan.
Recently, on the TvN variety show ‘Sumi’s Side Dishes,’ Kim Sumi attracted attention by showcasing side dish recipes filled with her unique know-how in every episode. She has continued to receive steady love from viewers for two years by experimenting with various dishes within the basic framework of side dishes.
Riding a second wave of popularity through cooking, Kim started the ‘Sumi’s Side Dishes’ business by establishing Napalggo F&B together with her son Jung Myungho. It is reported that the business has generated nearly 20 billion KRW in sales and about 2 billion KRW in operating profit through the third quarter of this year.
Jung Myungho graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Journalism and Broadcasting and was a national ice hockey player. He has also served as CEO of Napalggo CNM, CEO of Napalggo Media, and senior producer at Hakkoho-do Productions under Japan’s Den. He is also the husband of actress Seo Hyolim.
Park Moonhae, known as a major player in the gaming industry, graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver and previously served as CEO of Enrewmate and head of Gravity’s global business division. Former CEO Park is known as an overseas expert in the entertainment industry.
