Pohang City Achieves 'Best' in Audit Service Evaluation for 6 Consecutive Years with 'Self-Audit Activities'... First Nationwide

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Pohang City in Gyeongbuk announced on the 16th that it received an A grade in the Board of Audit and Inspection's '2020 Self-Audit Activity Evaluation,' achieving the highest grade for six consecutive years nationwide for the first time.
The Board of Audit and Inspection conducts evaluations annually on institutions with self-audit organizations installed (central administrative agencies, local governments, etc.) to enhance the substance of self-audit activities. It conducts on-site inspections of 142 institutions and document reviews of 495 institutions, and announces the results.
In the '2020 (2019 performance) Self-Audit Activity Evaluation Awards' announced by the Board of Audit and Inspection on the 4th, Pohang City was included in the first group of basic local governments (68 cities and districts with a population of 300,000 or more) among 637 administrative and public institutions nationwide and received the highest A grade.
This award marks Pohang City as the first local government nationwide to achieve the highest grade (A) consecutively for six years from 2015 to 2020. Additionally, recognizing the merit of the excellent institution, Pohang City Audit Team Leader Kwon Hee-joo was the only one among basic local governments to receive a commendation from the Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection.
Pohang City prevented financial waste factors in advance through routine audits on the appropriateness of financial reviews and mid-term inspections, saving 6.7 billion KRW in budget. It was also evaluated for promoting proactive administration through pre-consulting audits and operating on-site mobile complaint offices.
Along with this, Pohang City was recognized for contributing to the development and substance of audit administration by promoting audit administration involving citizens, such as operating citizen honorary integrity auditors and external expert auditors.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang City said, "This award is the result of continuous efforts in communication audits involving citizen participation, audits to discover omitted tax bases, and proactive administration to resolve inconveniences in citizens' lives in cooperation with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission."
