LG Display wins Prime Minister's Award at Korea Technology Awards for '88-inch 8K OLED'
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG Display announced on the 16th that its 88-inch 8K Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display, the world's first to be developed and commercialized, won the 'Prime Minister's Award' at the '2020 Korea Industrial Technology R&D Exhibition Technology Awards Ceremony.'
Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the 'Korea Technology Awards' is the most prestigious technology awards ceremony in Korea, selecting companies, research institutes, and universities that have developed new technologies and products with outstanding technical achievements and significant ripple effects on domestic industries. The event is held at COEX in Seoul from the 16th to the 18th.
The 88-inch 8K OLED display by LG Display, which won the award this time, was recognized for its technological excellence that enables delicate image expression optimized for ultra-high-resolution quality by controlling each of the 33 million pixels individually. It is evaluated as differentiated in the existing LCD-centered 8K market and has strengthened competitiveness in the display market with its proprietary OLED technology.
The company explained, "In particular, from the research and development process of core materials, parts, and equipment to production, we actively promoted localization by collaborating with domestic partners to overcome limitations and develop innovative processes, design technologies, and high-definition driving technologies, which was highly appreciated."
LG Display's 88-inch 8K OLED also won the 'People's Choice Award,' which selects the most innovative products at 'SID 2019,' the world's largest display conference.
