Foreign Investors Sold 1 Trillion Won in December, Inflow into KOSDAQ
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Foreign investors, who had net bought nearly 5 trillion won in the KOSPI market last November, have turned to net selling this month. While they have been net selling about 1 trillion won since December began, they are showing net buying in the KOSDAQ market, presenting a contrast.
According to the Korea Exchange on the 15th, from the 1st to the 14th of this month, foreign investors sold off 1.0758 trillion won worth of stocks in the KOSPI market. Foreigners had purchased 7.4316 trillion won worth of stocks from November 2 to 27, but after the MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International) index change issue came to the forefront, they net sold 3.63 trillion won worth of stocks by 10 a.m. on the 30th. It is analyzed that this was due to selling to realize profits from the index rise.
However, foreign capital is flowing into the KOSDAQ market, which is noteworthy.
Foreign investors net sold 300.6 billion won in September and 96.7 billion won in October in the KOSDAQ market, but bought 847 billion won worth of stocks in November. In particular, the purchase volume in November was even larger compared to the 200 billion won bought by individuals.
While the buying trend in KOSPI in November turned into net selling in December, the buying trend remains dominant in the KOSDAQ market.
From the 1st to the 14th of this month, foreign investors purchased a total of 224.4 billion won worth of stocks in the KOSDAQ market. Individuals net bought 914.5 billion won, while institutions net sold 682.6 billion won. Combining the net buying volume from November to this date, foreigners have purchased 1.0714 trillion won worth of stocks in the KOSDAQ market.
The stocks most bought by foreigners last month were Celltrion Healthcare and Celltrion Pharm, but this month, the top purchases included Wonik IPS (49.2 billion won), HL Biopharma (45.5 billion won), Celltrion Pharm (39.3 billion won), Alteogen (35.9 billion won), Cellivery (35.6 billion won), Mezzion (34.1 billion won), Seegene (33.5 billion won), and Helixmith (30.6 billion won).
